About the award
Finnish Additive Manufacturing Award
The Finnish Additive Manufacturing Award is presented to a person, organisation, group, association, event or product that has made a significant contribution to 3D printing.
The winner is selected by the FIRPA board based on the nominations it receives.
The FIRPA board welcomes well-reasoned nominations for the next recipient.
The rotating trophy
A design competition was held for the trophy, which is passed on as a rotating award. The aim was especially to highlight the changes that 3D printing enables in product design and manufacturing. The winning entry was selected with particular attention to design, innovativeness and printability. The winner was chosen by the FIRPA board: Veetu Varala with the work Luonti (Creation).
Luonti tells of the expanding universe and the limitless
possibilities of 3D printing, and seeks to depict the paradox of self-creation.
The structure, built from a Voronoi mesh, reflects the mathematical and technical
nature of printing and modelling.
The sculptural whole sits within the traditional vertical trophy form.
Manufacturing methods: powder bed fusion & binder jetting
